Web hosting titan GoDaddy has introduced the .ME domain extension.
The company was selected by government of Montenegro, along with Afilias Global Registry Services and Me-Net, to administer the domain name as a joint organization called doMEn, the Montenegrin word for domain.
GoDaddy will promote the .ME extension and Afilias will provide world-class registry technology.
The new extension can be used by anyone, not just residents of Montenegro, and doMEn plans to invite registrars, country code and top-level domain resellers to add .ME to their list of offerings.
"We're excited about the phenomenal potential of .ME and our ability to market it to you, all Web users, as well as other registrars, and of course we will promote it in true GoDaddy-esque style," Bob Parsons, GoDaddy founder and CEO, said in a press release issued by the company. "Couple .ME with our first-in-class customer support and the registry systems of Afilias and the possibilities are unlimited."
